Text Marketing Primer Part 1: Keyword Marketing and MMS

Text marketing has its very own acronyms and technical terms, which can feel intimidating. We’re here to do the opposite – make things clear, and easy. This series of posts will talk about common texting terms and explain how they can help you succeed! Today, we’ll talk about two of the most important texting features of our product: Keywords and MMS.

Let’s get started:

What are Texting Keywords?

Have you seen ads that say, “Text JOIN to 1-888-555-8888 to get a 10% off coupon”? Of course, you have! In this example the word "JOIN" is the Keyword and 1-888-555-8888 is the textable number you will use to send the message to your contacts. When you sign up for a texting service like EZ Texting, you are given access to a 10-digit Toll-Free Number. And then, you can acquire a unique keyword and use that to grow your list of contacts.

Why Should You Want a Texting Keyword?

Keywords are the easiest way to attract people to subscribe to your list. When they text your Keyword to the your textable number they become opted in subscribers. But just reserving a Keyword isn’t enough! You need to market your keyword and make sure your audience sees it. Think signs, email signatures, and social media!

What Do You Do with Those Opted-In Subscribers?

Give your subscribers what you promised – whether it is a coupon, monthly updates, or the Wi-Fi password! Be upfront when advertising your texting program, if you’re going to text twice a week or twice a year let contacts know. Then stick to your promises and deliver content that’s useful. Check out this CTIA guide to framing up your texting program.

What is a MMS text message

What is MMS texting?

An MMS message is a text that includes an image, video, or audio file. It can also be much longer than a normal SMS messages (up to 1600 characters vs just the 160 allotted in an SMS message). Sometimes called a picture message, an MMS is often used to share images when sending a promotional message in a mass text. Why Should I Send an MMS Text? At EZ Texting, we’ve seen clients get great results sharing product images along with their promotional messages. But really, it’s up to you! MMS messages let you get creative in adding sizzle to your text.

Are You Ready to Use a Keyword or MMS?

At EZ Texting we think there’s a tremendous opportunity in text marketing with Keywords and MMS messages. Have you given them a try? If you’re ready to get started, our Customer Success Managers are experts at helping businesses of every size get rolling. Check out our pricing plans now.
