Welcome to EZ Texting! The guide below will show you how to add contacts and manage your contact groups. Your first steps in setting up EZ Texting are to add your contacts, create groups of contacts, and send text messages. Read below to learn how simple these steps are and call us if you have any questions!

Adding Contacts

Contacts are the lifeblood of your business or organization. Without them, keeping customers or supporters engaged will be an uphill battle.
The two primary ways to add contacts are by adding them individually or uploading them from a spreadsheet. Here are instructions for both:

Adding contacts individually:

  1. Log in to your EZ Texting account.
  2. On the left nav, click on Contacts & Groups.
  3. Under Contacts, click on Add a Contact.
  4. Complete all the information, consider adding them to a group, then click Save.
Adding contacts from a spreadsheet:

Before you upload a spreadsheet, please note that your file must be in an .XLS, .XLSX, or .CSV file format. All phone numbers should have a valid, 10-digit US or Canadian number, such as 555-555-5555.
Any file you upload should have columns for First Name, Last Name, Phone Number, and Email Address anywhere in the first 5 columns. The top cell of each column should be labeled with these categories. Having additional columns won’t affect your upload.
  1. Log in to your EZ Texting account.
  2. On the left nav, click on Contacts & Groups.
  3. Under Contacts, click on Mass Upload Contacts
  • Select Upload File if your contacts are in a spreadsheet (.XLS, .XLSX, or .CSV files only).
  • Or select Paste Phone Numbers; please note the additional on-screen instructions and copy/paste info.
  1. If you choose Upload File, then follow these steps:
  • Select the Browse button.
  • Choose the file you’d like to upload, then select Open.
  • You’ll see a preview of your contacts; use the drop down arrows to ensure that the contacts you upload correspond with the fields within the EZ Texting platform (i.e. your contacts’ First Name aligns with the First Name column)
  • If EZ Texting doesn’t have a corresponding column to what you uploaded, then just leave it blank.
  1. When you’re done aligning the columns, click Continue With Upload.
  • Feel free to use the drop down arrow to add these contacts to a group.
  • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions, then select Import Contacts.
  1. Refresh the page or click Contacts & Groups to view the status of your uploads.

Creating Groups

Building groups helps you segment your audience and customers to more strategically engage them. Groups can be segmented by fans’ location or interests, for example. Read on to learn how to create them:

  1. Log in to your EZ Texting account.
  2. On the left nav tab, click on Contacts & Groups; you can also click View under the Contacts box in your dashboard.
  3. Whichever you choose, select the blue Groups button, then click Add a New Group.
  4. Next, type in the new group’s name and any notes you’d like.
  5. Click Save – and you’re done!
The main Groups page features additional options to help you manage your groups:
  1. Edit a group
  2. Delete groups
  3. Send a text message
  4. Merge groups
  5. Duplicate a group (using the Clone button)

Before you’re able to perform any of these additional tasks, you’ll first have to click the boxes next to the group name.
To edit a group’s name or notes, simply click the name of the group. To edit the contacts within a group, select the icon in the Contacts column in the row of the group you’d like to edit.

Sending Text Messages

Sending text messages is a core feature of EZ Texting and is a key part of increasing brand engagement and loyalty.
Read on to learn how easy it is to do.

  1. Log in to your EZ Texting account.
  2. In your dashboard, click Send Now in the Send Text Messages box, or click New Message in the left nav tab
  3. Select who you’d like to send the text to, fill out the fields, then select Continue.
  4. On the next screen, confirm or edit your text, and when you’re ready, select Send Message.

Your Inbox

Text messaging is two-way. When you send a message, your contacts may respond for up to twelve hours. When someone texts in your Keyword, that message will also be delivered to your inbox. Unread messages are bolded.


Keywords help you grow the numbers of contacts you have, and customizing them can help you rise above the competition. See how easy it is to acquire the perfect one for your company!

  1. Log in to your EZ Texting account.
  2. Select Keywords (either from the left nav tab or from your Dashboard).
  3. Adding a keyword.
  4. Select Add a New Keyword.
  5. Read the on-screen prompt and choose the best option for your goals.
  • Option 1: Continue with Pay & Go
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to find your desired keyword.
    • Enter your payment information.
    • When you’re ready, select Agree and Pay. After payment processing, you’re taken to the Edit a Keyword page.
      • You can create the settings for your new keyword, like sending new contacts to groups or customizing auto-replies.
  • Option 2: See Monthly Plans
    • After selecting this option and choosing the best plan for you, you’ll be taken to the same payment page as above.
  1. Click Save and you’re done!

Signup Widgets For Your Website, Email Blasts, and Facebook

If you have a website or send email blasts, you can create a customized widget that allows people to join your texting list by entering their phone number. If you send emails to your contacts, you can add a link to the widget that we host for you. Choosing a Plan or Paying for Messages

EZ Texting offers you two ways to pay. By default, your account is set to Pay & Go. You can buy message credits when you need them and rent Keywords on a monthly basis. If you buy messages in bulk, we offer discounts. Messages that you purchase expire 18 months from date of purchase.

Most of our clients choose to upgrade to one of our monthly plans. Monthly plans include plan messages and Keywords. Each of our plans offers a different number of plan messages and included Keywords. There are no contracts to sign and you can cancel your monthly plan at anytime. If you are on a plan, you can also buy messages at a discounted price. Please note that plan messages do not roll over from one plan cycle to the next.

Message Forwarding

Message forwarding is a great feature if you can't get to a computer. We can forward all of your incoming messages to any email address for free. If you'd like us to forward your incoming messages to a mobile phone number we can do that as well. In the screenshot below, you can see that there is a third option, API, which we will cover in a bit.

Our Send-from-Phone feature allows you to text groups of contacts from your own phone. Send-from-Phone requires a Keyword, which you will connect to a group or multiple groups. You can authorize up to three phone numbers to send messages for a given Keyword-groups connection. Sending messages is simple. From an authorized phone number, text our short code like this: "Keyword Your Message To Your Group". Whenever we receive a message like this from an authorized phone number we will automatically send that message to the selected group or groups.


Voice Broadcasting

In addition to group text messaging, EZ Texting allows you to quickly send voice messages to groups of contacts. You can upload a WAV file or our voice system can call your phone to automatically record a message. You can customize the Caller ID that your contacts will see when our system calls them. If any of your contacts do not answer the call, we'll leave a message.


API / SMS Gateway

If you have an existing website or application, you can easily connect to EZ Texting using our APIs. In addition to sending and receiving messages, you can perform many account functions including renting and configuing Keywords, blasting voice messages, and purchasing credits. To learn more about our API, visit the Developer Center for code samples, documentation, and more.

Getting Support

If you ever experience difficulties with your EZ Texting account, we're here to help. You can create a support ticket within your account.
